First of all thank you for taking time out of your day to look at our groups website. Our goal is to collect as many new books as possible and distribute them to local hospitals in lower east Michigan--to be received by teen patients. This year we are focusing our outreach efforts to authors and bloggers! Our first event was launched May 16th, 2008—and the feedback is just overwhelming! We raised 103 books and $113.00! Lets see if we can double the book count this year! This year we are accepting donations from the general public--see "General Donation" below!

Once books start to pour in we hope to post photos—and keep everyone updated every month! If you are interested in donating please read below. Please keep in mind, all books must be BRAND NEW--not every child in the hospital has a strong immune system.

A note from our founder Devyn Burton:
"Many people have asked me WHY do this project, what kind of difference can it make? I created Book Transfusion because I am the teen who is stuck in the hospital, awaiting a blood transfusion, dreading surgery, trying to avoid the painful shots. When I was twelve I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, a life threatening disease.

Being in the hospital so much I noticed a trend, teens in the hospital had two options A) color and do crafts meant for a six year old or option B) 'suck it up' like an adult watch TV all day. That is unacceptable, we need something to occupy our mind as well—and even if you did partake in options A & B you can only color and watch TV so much!!

A book is a wonderful tool for anyone in the hospital. You have to concentrate to see the characters of the story, as before you know it you are out of the hospital walking around Hogwarts, battling off “you know who” with Harry and his friends. You may have heard “books are magical” and it is true, even if it is for a short time. They help you get away, from the pain, the worry, the doctors, the blood—everything. That is why I choose to start this project, to help make someone escape from the confinement of the hospital, and be free!"

Authors:

If you are an author of an YA book—why not send a copy today! You will be added to all press materials and you get to give the gift of your creation to someone else! I (Devyn Burton) have been hospitalized many times in my battle with Lupus—Having a book at the hospital helps bring the reader into a new world away from all of the needle pokes and worrisome nights. If you are interested in taking part please contact our staff at booktransfusion@yahoo.com, Subject the e-mail with your name.

Bloggers:
If you are a book blogger and interested in donating a book or two please contact our office at booktransfusion@yahoo.com! If you're interested in talking to our staff for an interview or promotional materials--request them in your e-mail.

Businesses:
If you are a business we can use your help with donations (books or cash) your organization will receive recognition on the website and any printed material that happens -- if you are interested in taking part please contact our office at booktransfusion@yahoo.com, Subject like Business.

General Donations:
If you do not fall into any of the above categories but would like to donate a book please send an e-mail to booktransfusion@yahoo.com with a description of your donation.

PLEASE NOTE!: If you are interested in having your name, organization (business) involved in press packets and releases you must make contact with our office by MARCH 13TH 2010 -- And donation must be received not later then MARCH 25TH 2010!
